Sony News From Gamescom

Most of the news from Gamescom so far is from Sony. The biggest is the confirmation of the rumors about the release of the PS3 Slim. The new PS3 Slim is the same as the original PS3 except its 32% smaller, 36% lighter, uses 34% less power, has a bigger 120GB hard drive and it only costs $299. It's better in every way. A little side note, you can go ahead and buy a PS3 for $299 if you can't wait for the slim to come out the first week in September, but I'd wait. Sony also announced a new firmware update which will change the Xross Media Bar to make it easier to navigate the PlayStation network and game menus. They've also added a small menu to the top right corner that displays the number of friends you have online, the number of messages you have, the date and time, and a scrolling news ticker. They've also made the background image more animated and dynamic . New themes will be the same, with more animation and interactivity. That's pretty much it for the PS3 but not for Sony.

Sony also had some announcements about the PSP Go. If you don't know what the PSP Go is, it's a smaller, redesigned PSP that is focused on down loadable games and will be out on October 1st. Sony introduced PSP Minis which will be a digital store on the PlayStation Network that sells down loadable games that are no larger then 100MB and could cost as little as a $1. Minis will be open the day the PSP Go launches and will have 15 games to start with and 50 games by the end of the year. Other small announcements from Sony are the Digital Comics feature for the PSP, which lets you read comics on your PSP. They also announced a ton of new movies and these aren't as old as the ones we're use to. They are also releasing loads of new game trailers, that are all over the web.

Real quick, it's not Sony news but I just found out about it and had to add it real fast. Lionhead Studios has officially announced Fable III will be coming out around the holidays in 2010. Fable II is one of my favorite games and I can't wait for Fable III but I hope this doesn't mean they are done with down loadable content for Fable II. We shall see. That's all for today but check back tomorrow for more Gamescom updates.
